Energy Audits

With the use of technology and knowledge, we conduct tests such as blower door tests. A blower door test consists of a machine used to measure the air tightness of buildings. It can also be used to measure airflow between building zones, to test duct work air tightness and to help physical locate air leakage sites in the building envelope. Also an infrared camera helps us detect where air or heat is lost. Adequate air exchange is important for occupant comfort, health and safety, but most buildings have a far higher rate of air leakage than necessary. The root cause is often poor design and/or construction which allows air to leak in or out. Without thermal imaging, the source of these drafts can be extremely difficult to detect and visualize. But with thermal imagery our auditors can readily uncover the source of the heat issue, leading to helpful advice on the best improvements and repairs to stop energy loss.

Ductless Heat Pumps

Supplemental or Space Heating Systems

Ductless heat pumps (or “mini-split” heat pumps) distribute heat and cooling directly to the spaces where they are installed. Ductless heat pumps have an outdoor unit connected to an indoor unit via small, copper refrigerant lines.

 Heat Pump Hot Water Heater

Heat Pump Water Heater

Water Heating

Each year, thousands of Mainers buy heat pump water heaters. ENERGY STAR® reports that these high-efficiency units can save a four-person household more than $3,000 over ten years when compared to electric water heaters. Other benefits include long warranties and the ability to dehumidify.

$500 rebate available.

 attic insulation

Insulation

Under-insulated attics and walls can be a significant energy drain. For optimal energy efficiency, your home should be insulated from the roof down to the foundation. When insulation is properly installed, heating and cooling systems run less frequently, helping to reduce on-going energy expenses.

$700 incentive available.

Up to $2,100 available for insulation and air sealing projects.

Natural gas customers may be eligible for additional incentives.
